When designing websites, there are a number of design principles and conventions by which most web designers abide and follow. These guidelines not only help the design process flow smoothly, but they tend to result in a much nicer user interface and general design for your web traffic. So without further ado, I shall dive into a few of these concepts and guidelines.
Welcome.
I am a computer engineering major at Oregon State University, a web designer, and a rock-climber based in Portland, OR (going to school in Corvallis). I have huge interests in embedded systems, programming, and web security. I use Linux for development and OS X for design, and I design websites and hack electronics at 2:00 a.m. so I don't look like a computer addict during the day. I hand-coded this website using strict XHTML, CSS, Javascript, and a tidbit of PHP. The CMS in use on this website is Wordpress.
When I'm not on the computer, I enjoy the daily cup of tea and climbing whenever I get the chance. I also love learning about the Human brain, and how its interactions with technology can be further unified.

So I’ve been asked a lot of questions about some terms and concepts in web design and development. Most of which have been “what’s the difference between HTML and XHTML?”, “Is XHTML a programming language?”, “What’s CSS for?”, and “What is XML?”. I’d like to go over a few of these, as well as whatever happens to pop into my head as I’m writing this.
